Methods Employed

Many roads lead to the goals of therapy

I am an integrative practitioner.  My understanding of what makes us “tick” is sourced from a variety of theories about personality and human development, as well as a growing body of scientific neurobiological data.  Theoretical approaches from which I source include: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and transpersonal.  For information on these follow this link to Psychology Today’s Therapeutic Methods.

In general terms, my approach is based on my belief in the innate capacity of human beings grow, heal and adapt.  Life circumstances sometimes interfere with that innate capacity. When the process is stalled, forms of depression, anxiety or both may result. In therapy, my goal is to support and guide my clients in their unique healing process so that they are able to feel better, negotiate challenges with ease, and take more pleasure in life.

When determining the best approach(es) for a client, I consider numerous aspects of his or her life.  From that consideration as well as the individual’s treatment goals, a treatment plan is recommended.

Even though other methods are employed, our work often begins with insight-oriented talk therapy.  All treatments work best when there is a good relationship between therapist and client (see how psychotherapy works).  It is my belief that this is best established through therapeutic connection.
